is a japanese fantasy animated film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, spirited away is an Academy Award winner and Japan’s highest-grossing movie of all time.

- Spirited away is the first ever movie to earn US$200 million grosses before actually opening in the USA.
- Miyazaki wrote, directed and drew the storyboards for the movie. He essentially wrote the movie with drawings. The film is his own work and vision. basically he did everything by himeself
- Miyazaki didn’t write a script for the movie instead the story developed it’s self as he went using pre written plot and character development ideas.(“It’s not me who makes the film,” he told Midnight Eye, echoing the philosophy of many great artists, filmmakers, and musicians. “The film makes itself and I have no choice but to follow.”).
- every character name reflect who they are in the movie, Boh means little boy or son, Kamaji means old boiler man, Yubaba means bathhouse witch, and Zeniba means money witch. Chihiro means a thousand fathoms or searches, while her worker name, Sen, means thousand.
- Spirited Away was the first anime movie to be nominated for an Academy Award, and won one.
